How to get opted-in customers from Fontdue into your newsletter service

When Fontdue asks your customers for their email address – at checkout, on the test fonts form, or through the newsletter signup component – it also captures their newsletter opt-in preference. By default that opt-in is just a flag stored alongside the customer in your Fontdue database. To actually send those customers a newsletter, you have a few options.

The universal path – and the one most foundries use – is a CSV export from Fontdue that you import into your newsletter service. For Klaviyo and Buttondown, Fontdue can also forward opt-ins live, so new subscribers show up in your service without a re-export.

The opt-in checkbox itself – where customers see it on your site and how to relabel it – is covered on the Customers page. This page picks up from there: getting those opt-ins into the tool you actually send mail from.

Exporting customers as CSV

CSV export works with any newsletter service. You filter the customer list to opted-in customers, download the CSV, and import it into your service of choice.

1 Filter by opted-in customers

Navigate to Customers and use the Newsletter dropdown to select Opted in. The list updates to show only customers who opted in to your newsletter.

2 Download the CSV

Click the menu in the top right of the toolbar and select Download CSV. The export respects your active filters, so only opted-in customers are included.

The CSV contains three columns: Name, Email, and Newsletter opt-in. Since you filtered first, every row will show true for the opt-in column.

3 Import into your newsletter service

Open your newsletter service and find the option to import subscribers from a CSV. Map the Email column to the subscriber email field and Name to the name field. The Newsletter opt-in column can be ignored.

To pick up new opt-ins later, repeat the export and import. Most services deduplicate subscribers on import, so importing the full list again is safe – existing subscribers won’t receive a duplicate welcome email or lose their place. If a subscriber unsubscribes through your newsletter service, that status is managed by the service itself; re-importing from Fontdue won’t override their unsubscribed status11Double-check this is true for your specific newsletter service before re-importing..

Direct integrations

For Klaviyo and Buttondown, Fontdue can sync new opt-ins to your account automatically, so customers show up in your service without you re-running the export. Set it up under SettingsNewsletter – the Settings reference lists the fields and the one-time bulk-sync option for seeding existing customers.
