Fontdue is a purpose-built platform for selling fonts online. It provides a dashboard for managing your font catalog, licenses, and customer orders, plus frontend tools for building your foundry website.
How it works
Fontdue separates the backend (your admin) from the frontend (your website).
Your admin is where you manage everything: upload and organize fonts, configure licenses and variables, track orders and customers, and manage settings.
Your website integrates with Fontdue by embedding interactive components, which do the heavy-lifting for you.
What Fontdue handles for you
Fontdue’s features group into three areas: handling your fonts, selling them, and presenting them online.
Handling fonts
Font processing – Upload your OTF or TTF files. Fontdue extracts family and style names, generates WOFF and WOFF2 webfonts, and serves them through a CDN for use on your site and in type testers. Variable fonts are fully supported, including custom axes and named instances.
Catalog organization – Organize by family and collection, with admin for designers, bundles, and type tester defaults.
Test fonts – Optionally let customers download test fonts before buying. Fontdue generates subsetted versions of your fonts automatically.
Selling fonts
Licensing – Flexibly configure font licenses (Desktop, Web, App, or anything else) with variables and pricing multipliers. Set up traditional license tiers, modern company size licenses, or novel licensing structures. Includes purchasing power parity regional pricing.
Payments and tax – Stripe integration handles payments (credit cards, Apple Pay, iDEAL, bank transfers, and more). Tax is calculated automatically via Stripe Tax for VAT, GST, and sales tax, with EU e-invoicing compliance. Test mode runs the full flow against Stripe test cards before you go live.
Orders and customers – The order lifecycle end to end: cart and checkout, order ZIP files, email receipts and PDF invoices, and a customer login where buyers re-access past purchases. Refunds via Stripe, coupons, shared cart quotes, and newsletter integrations.
Reports and analytics – A dashboard with font sales insights. Detailed per-font sales reports and the monthly platform-fee invoices. Optional website analytics tracks pageviews and font requests.
Presenting fonts online
Content – Author pages and articles directly in Fontdue, with SEO metadata and Markdown editing.
Site customization – Theme, labels and copy, checkout fields, receipt templates, cookie consent, and email domain.
Tools – Watermark lookup for identifying unlicensed use, issues for customer reports, and a GraphQL Playground for exploring the API.
Fontdue components – Ready-made interactive elements for your site: cart and checkout via the Store Modal, Type Testers, a Character Viewer, and more. Drop them in with a <script> tag or install as an npm package.
Building your website
Your website connects to Fontdue in one of a few ways, from a no-code demo template built from your catalog, through embedding components on a site you already run, to a custom site you build against the GraphQL API. Integrate Fontdue lays out the options and recommends one – and if you’d rather focus on type design, you can get in touch about having the Fontdue team build your site.
